Ikea hack: bar cabinet (inspired by Brittany Makes)

I’ve been looking for a bar cabinet for years. But every time I find one I love, it’s way too expensive. I even made a hard left in Palm Springs—on my way to a drag show—to visit a cabinet from West Elm I’d been drooling over. And even it wasn’t right.

Then, I came upon Brittany Makes blog, and viola, my bar cabinet dream staring back at me, in the form of an ikea hack.

Using Brittany’s gorgeous design as inspiration, I decided to DIY my bar cabinet!

I used the same bones as she did, but wanted a slightly different look and texture from the legs and doors.

Here is a list of things you need to make this:

  • Ikea Besta Cabinet (with whatever door style you like
  • 6”x 6” mid century wooden legs (found mine on Amazon and stained them)
  • 4 Angled leg plates (also on Amazon)
  •  Wall paper or wrapping paper to finish the inside of the cabinet (paperchase-usa.com has the gold foil paper shown here. It’s called “gold foil wood grain wrapping paper”)

The finished product has all the glam and sophistication I was hoping for!

Glass serving tray (Cost Plus). Plant and gold planter (Botanic and Luxe).

Inside the cabinet, I glued the gold foil paper in place (lots of measuring, cutting, and swearing). It was worth it, as it gives the cabinet depth and texture. I placed a wine rack on the bottom shelf to complete the look (from Target).

storage heaven!

What DIY dreams do you want to make come true? Surprisingly, this was a lot easier than I thought. I’d love to see your projects!
